Description

This foundational family staple fills the kitchen with a deeply familiar, aromatic warmth as it simmers. Patient simmering allows the crushed fruit to reduce, mellowing the sharp acidity into a rich, velvety consistency. Ingredients

2 lb ground beef - browned and rinsed
2 tsp olive oil - divided
1 bunch green onion - 1/8" slices
6 clove garlic - minced
1-1/2 cups low fat beef broth
1 large onion - coarsely chopped
2 med green bell peppers - coarsely chopped
1 28 oz Tomatoees, San Marzano (whole peeled)
2 jars Classico Traditional spaghetti sauce
2 Jar Prego Traditional spaghetti sauce
1 can Hormel Chili - no beans
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp oregano

Instructions

1) brown beef in a large pot and rinse, return to pot and reduce to low heat

2) While beef is browning, in a separate pan sauté green onions and garlic in 1 tsp of oil until soft and add to beef

3) In the same pan you cooked the garlic, add the remaining oil and sauté the onions, bell peppers until soft

4) Add pepper/onion mix to a food processor or blender along with the tomatoes and process until smooth

5) Add blended items as well as prepared sauces, chili, lemon juice and oregano and increase the heat to bring to a slow simmer

6) Allow to simmer for at least an hour to allow flavors to develop

7) Check seasoning and add salt/pepper to taste

8) Serve with pasta of choice and garnish with as much Parmesan as you want!

This sauce freezes very well, divide into containers and use up in 6 months
